doc visit yesterday
happy saturday. today i am 18 weeks pregnant! feeling pretty good these days, other than the little sore throat and cough that is slowly going away. im definately feeling baby movements. its like this kid is doing summer saults, hand-stands, cart-wheels.
yesterday i had my monthly checkup. i got there early and picked up a copy of Conveive magazine, which all other pregnant women in the room were reading. I relaxed by reading about all the things i am suppose to have for the baby. What, a diaper seperator? huh?

crib mattress
waterproof mattress pads

fitted sheets in cotton or flannel
crib blankets
mobile and safe crib toys
changing table

lamp and night light (PHEW, WE'VE GOT THIS ONE COVERED ALREADY)

sleepsacks and gowns (flame retardant, or nonflammable) - (OH, WE SHOULDNT LIGHT THE BABY ON FIRE? )

have a good laugh.
doc appt update: i am measuring normal (even thou of course i feel my belly is 'small' but i am fat), baby's heartbeat was 130/min, which doc found right away. she didnt do ultrasound, so i was a little diappointed....but even more excited to see the babe in february on the big screen. i was slightly concerned about my weight gain (feeling huge!) but this month was only 5 lbs, so that is right on track. yeah! hey doug, pass the butterfinger please (joke).
i need new clothes.

healthy baby
last night doug and i went to our first of many pregnancy/baby classes at NYU. last night was the 'healthy baby' - taught by one of the head nurses of the pregnancy unit, lacation consultant, etc. the most informative bit was regarding breastfeeding. the rest was pretty much not new news.
we watched a video of fertilization, and embroy/fetus development. doug whispered to me "i think i saw this in highschool health class" ....yes, i believe it was the same VHS from 1990.
i was encouraged to take this class as soon as possible....while most women were 6+months pregnant and taking this class about foods to avoid, treating morning sickness,, etc. a little late for that! looking around, i noticed i had the smallest belly. doug said, "no, look at that girl," pointing to a woman across the room, "she looks like you" well, it turns out...she was one of the guest speaker physical therapist, and not pregnant. whops.
tomorrow i go for my monthly check up. i hope we get to take a peek of the babe. a month ago, on 12/19 i got to see the baby's back, spine and little frog legs squriming around.
i will be 18 weeks on Saturday!!!!!! cant believe it. we find out the sex on Feb 6th. that should be a cool one. im hoping its a 3d scan.

so i know i will regret saying this, but i wish my belly was bigger NOW. people are so rude on the subways! i want a sign around my neck that says 'BABY ON BOARD' so maybe i would get a seat...maybe, one guy would look up from his blackberry or newspaper or mystery novel and offer me his seat. all these people rush to get on the subway to grab a seat. im tired. i dont sleep well. i want a seat.
Welcome Welcome
Greetings Friends and Family!
Welcome to the Baby Duker blog. We will be posting ultrasound photos and all updates here for your enjoyment. Baby's due date is June 20th.
As of today, January 4th, 2009 I am 16 weeks and 1 day pregnant. Feeling pretty good these days....After a lovely week of rest at my parents house who can complain? Today I woke up with a back ache, which is new for me and feeling much larger in the belly area. Other than that, I can't complain. We will be taking a belly shot this evening...stay tuned.
The first trimester was a rough one - morning sickness every day made me pretty miserable. I owe my survival to Doug - fetching me bread, bagels, and making mashed potatoes at my every desire.
Now that Christmas is over and a New Year is here...its time for us to buckle down and get organized. Our closets are currently jammed full of, well, who knows what. We are going to work on cleaning them out and making room for baby stuff. We also need to re-work our 'office'; (where I am typing now) into a nursery of sorts. Shouldn't be too difficult. Just need to actually DO it. More on that later.
So, that's it for now. I'm going to enjoy my last day of 'holiday' before its back to work tomorrow.... maybe today is a good day for a walk in Central Park!
